About Me

I am Roman Nikolaus Urban, born on May 2, 1958, in Bous, a village in Saarland. Since 1979, I lived for several years with Hapkido Grandmaster Han-young Choi, a Buddhist, in the USA. During my time in the United States, I learned daily from Grandmaster Han-young Choi and studied his developed Hapkido style as well as his unique belt examination program.

Grandmaster Han-young Choi named his style Chun Ki, which means "heavenly power."

The Korean Kido Chun Ki Do Association certified that I earned the 1st Dan according to the examination regulations in 1980. The examination took place publicly in El Paso, Texas, during a Hapkido demonstration.

In 1982, the World Chun Ki Association appointed me as an instructor and certified me with the 2nd Dan. This examination also took place publicly in Las Cruces, New Mexico, during a Hapkido demonstration.

I became the top student of Grandmaster Han-young Choi and spread Chun Ki Do - Hapkido in the USA.

After my return from the United States, I founded several non-profit Hapkido associations in Germany. I have taught over 100 black belts and trained several Hapkido masters.

In 1990, the World Chun Ki Association appointed me as a judge, and Grandmaster Han-young Choi nominated me as the master of the World Chun Ki Association.
The Korean Kido Chun Ki Do Association certified that I earned the 6th degree black belt according to the examination regulations. This examination also took place publicly in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during a Hapkido demonstration.

The World Chun Ki Association appointed me as Chiefmaster Europe, and Grandmaster Han-young Choi certified me with the 7th Dan during a public Hapkido demonstration in Mainerzhagen in 1993.

To support the work and activities of the individual Hapkido associations and to promote a sense of community among families, I founded the Chun Ki Do Association Germany and nominated my top student No. 1, Master Stefan Müller, as the president of the German umbrella organization of the Chun Ki Do Association Germany.

In 1998, the president of the World Chun Ki Association, Grandmaster Han-young Choi, awarded me the 8th Dan during a public Hapkido demonstration in Untermeitingen.

I founded the Chun Ki Do Association Africa and appointed my top student No. 1, Master Akoto Raphael Silvanus from Ghana, as judge and president of the Chun Ki Do Association Africa in 2013.

Together with my top student No. 2, Master Jörg Moßmann, I founded the Chun Ki Do Association Europe and nominated him in 2014 as judge and president of the Chun Ki Do Association Europe.

In 2015, I became a member of the Korea Arts of Society.

I also support Hapkido in Germany and serve as press officer for the German Hapkido Federation (DHBe.V.), which advocates for diversity in the colorful world of Hapkido and unites various styles under one roof in Germany.

In 2021, I was awarded the honorary doctorate title of Human Rights Dr. h.c. by the Human Rights Academy for my commitment and knowledge worldwide about human rights.

Before the Hapkido legend Grandmaster Han-young Choi passed away, he bequeathed his life's work, the World Chun Ki Do Association, to me as his top student No. 3. This is unique in the Korean Hapkido tradition. 

The founder of Chun Ki Do, Grandmaster Han-young Choi, 10th Dan Chun Ki Do - Hapkido, bequeathed his house, the World Chun Ki Do Association, to a white world citizen.

In 2018, the Mission and Human Rights Academy awarded me the Peace Prize for my special merits for world peace.

Under the name Papa Nikolaus, I founded the Guten Morgen Foundation in Africa in 2018 together with Pastor Dunu Agbesi Joseph.

Ich bin Roman Nikolaus Urban, geboren am 2. Mai 1958 in Bous, einem Dorf im Saarland. Seit 1979 habe ich mehrere Jahre bei dem Hapkido-Großmeister Han-young Choi, einem Buddhisten, in den USA gelebt. Während meiner Zeit in den Vereinigten Staaten habe ich täglich von Großmeister Han-young Choi gelernt und seinen entwickelten Hapkido-Stil sowie sein einzigartiges Gürtelprüfungsprogramm erlernt.

Großmeister Han-young Choi nannte seinen Stil Chun Ki, was so viel wie „himmlische Kraft“ bedeutet.

Die koreanische Kido Chun Ki Do Association hat mir durch Großmeister Han-young Choi bescheinigt, dass ich 1980 den 1. Dan nach der Prüfungsordnung erlangt habe. Die Prüfung fand in aller Öffentlichkeit in El Paso, Texas, während einer Hapkido-Vorführung statt.

Nach meiner Rückkehr aus den Vereinigten Staaten gründete ich mehrere gemeinnützige Hapkido-Vereine in Deutschland. Ich habe über 100 Schwarzgurte unterrichtet und mehrere Hapkido-Meister ausgebildet.

1990 berief die World Chun Ki Association mich zum Richter und Großmeister Han-young Choi nominierte mich zum Meister der World Chun Ki Association.

Um die Arbeit und Aktivitäten der einzelnen Hapkido-Vereine zu unterstützen und den Familien Sinn zu fördern, gründete ich die Chun Ki Do Association Deutschland und nominierte meinen Top-Schüler Nr. 1, Meister Stefan Müller, zum Präsidenten des Deutschen Dachverbandes der Chun Ki Do Association Deutschland.

Im Jahr 1998 verlieh mir der Präsident der World Chun Ki Association, Großmeister Han-young Choi, den 8. Dan während einer Hapkido-Vorführung in aller Öffentlichkeit in Untermeitingen.

Ich gründete die Chun Ki Do Association Africa und ernannte meinen Top-Schüler Nr. 1, Meister Akoto Raphael Silvanus aus Ghana, zum Richter und Präsidenten der Chun Ki Do Association Africa im Jahr 2013.

Zusammen mit meinem Top-Schüler Nr. 2, Meister Jörg Moßmann, gründete ich die Chun Ki Do Association Europe und nominierte ihn 2014 zum Richter und Präsidenten der Chun Ki Do Association Europe.

Im Jahr 2015 wurde ich Mitglied der Korea Arts of Society.

Ich unterstütze auch in Deutschland Hapkido und bin Pressewart beim Deutschen Hapkido Bund (DHBe.V.), der die Vielfalt in der bunten Hapkido-Welt befürwortet und die verschiedenen Stile in Deutschland unter einem Dach vereint.

Im Jahr 2021 wurde ich von der Menschenrechtsakademie mit dem Ehrendoktor-Titel Human Rights Dr. h.c. ausgezeichnet, für mein Engagement und mein Wissen weltweit über Menschenrechte.

Bevor die Hapkido-Legende Großmeister Han-young Choi starb, vermachte er sein Lebenswerk, die World Chun Ki Do Association, an mich als seinen Top-Schüler Nr. 3. Dies ist einmalig in der koreanischen Hapkido-Tradition. Der Gründer des Hauses Chun Ki Do, Großmeister Han-young Choi, 10. Dan Chun Ki Do - Hapkido, hat sein Haus, die World Chun Ki Do Association, an einen weißen Weltbürger vererbt.

Im Jahr 2018 verlieh mir die Missions- und Menschenrechtsakademie den Friedenspreis für meine besonderen Verdienste für den Weltfrieden.

Unter dem Namen Papa Nikolaus gründete ich 2018 zusammen mit Pastor Dunu Agbesi Joseph die Stiftung Guten Morgen Foundation in Afrika.
